"Another Night"은 독일의 Eurodance 프로젝트 그룹인 Real McCoy의 두 번째 프로젝트 앨범인 <Space Invaders>의 수록곡으로 Juergen Wind (J. Wind) & Frank "Quickmix" Hassas & Olaf Jeglitza가 함께 만들었고, Juergen Wind (J. Wind) & Frank "Quickmix" Hassas가 함께 프로듀싱 하였다.

 

 

빌보드 HOT100에서는 3위까지 올랐는데 무려 11주간이나 3위를 고수하며 역사상 최장수 3위라는 기록을 남기기도 했고, 캐나다, 호주, 스코틀랜드, 짐바브웨등에서 1위를 차지했으며, 전세계 주요국가에서 TOP20에 들며 크게 성공했다.

 

 

상업적인 대성공 외에도 이 곡은 평단으로 부터 광범위하게 호평을 받았는데,

 

AllMusic의 편집장 Bradley Torreano(브래들리 토레아노)는 이 곡을 두고 아래와 같이 극찬을 아끼지 않았고 : the song "is the biggest thing they have ever done; with its charming hooks, instantly recognizable keyboard part, and infectious rhythm, it might be one of the best dance songs to emerge out of the techno-pop explosion."(이 노래는 그들이 지금까지 해온 것중 가장 큰 성취를 거둔 것"이라며 "매력적인 후크, 즉각적으로 귀에 꼳히는 건반 파트, 전염성 있는 리듬으로 테크노 팝의 폭발에서 나온 최고의 댄스 곡 중 하나가 될 것입니다.)

이 곡은 1993년 여름 Hansa Records(BMG Berlin)를 통해 유럽에서 최초로 발매되었는데, 초기에는 독일에서 18위를 정점으로 그 외의 유럽 국가에서는 크게 반응을 보이지 않았다. 그런데 이듬해인 1994년 BMG Canada의 적극적인 홍보를 등에 업고 갑자기 캐나다 차트에서 1위에 오르며 주목을 받게 되는데, 캐나다에서의 성공은 당시 Arista Records(아리스타 레코드)의 CEO였던 Clive Davis의 관심을 끌게된다. 그는 이미 스웨덴의 팝 그룹 Ace of Base(에이스 오브 베이스)를 들여와서 크게 성공을 거둔 경험이 있었기에, 또 다른 EURO Music 프로젝트로 이 곡을 미국 시장에 선보이기로 결정한다.

 

미국의 Arista Records와 독일의 Hansa Records(BMG Berlin) 간에 새로운 거래가 확정되고, 프로젝트 이름은 원래의 M.C. Sar & The Real McCoy에서 대중이 인식하기 편하도록 Real McCoy로 압축되었고, 1994년 여름 시장을 석권하기 위한 Arista Record의 신속한 진행으로 단 몇개월만에 시장에 출하된 이 곡은 엄청난 프로모션에 힘입어 순식간에 차트3위까지 오르게 된다.

 

Real McCoy는 (가짜가 아니라 진정한 가치를 지닌) 진짜[진품]을 뜻하는 말인데, 여성 보컬과 남성 래퍼로 구성되는 EURO DANCE의 전형적인 포맷이 이들을 시작으로 형성된 것으로 보는것이 일반적이다. 이들의 전세계적인 성공 이후로 비슷한 포맷의 팀들이 우후죽순으로 급조되기도 했었다.

 

 

뮤직비디오는 유럽 버전과 북미 버전의 분위기가 완전히 다른데, 이런곳에서도 가깝지만 멀기만한 그들의 문화적 정서적 차이를 느낄 수 있다.
