"The Problem Song"은 캐나다의 인디 팝 밴드인 Valley가 2022년9월 발표한 싱글로 Rob Laska & Karah James & Alex DiMauro & Mike Brandolino & Jorgen Odegard가 함께 만들었고, Valley와 Jorgen Odegard가 함께 프로듀싱 하였다.

 

 

바이브가 느껴지는 파워풀한 멜로디의 팝으로 최근 몇년들어 오랜만에 나온 느낌이 가득한 곡이다.

 

2020년 캐나다의 Grammy로 불리우는 Juno Award에 노미네이트 되기도 했던 이 4인조 팝밴드의 리드 보컬인 Rob Laska는 이 곡에 대해 아래와 같이 설명했다.

 

“’The Problem Song” is the beginning of a whole new chapter for us. It’s our most delicate attempt at holding space in a song while still having a chorus that feels powerful both emotionally and sonically. We really tried to keep the production engaging without getting in the way of the very universal message of the lyric.”

“We didn’t hold back on really saying it as it is. “The Problem Song” simply put is about switching on hope within the grounds of your relationship with someone you’ve loved for a long time. It’s about the unexpected shit that is the reality of being with “the one” for a long time. It’s about finding joy in the pursuit of starting again.”

(우리는 있는 그대로를 말하는 것을 주저하지 않았어요. 'The Problem Song'은 쉽게 말해 오랫동안 사랑했던 사람과의 관계 속에서 희망을 품는 곡이죠. 그건 '오직 한사람'과 오랜시간 함께하는 것에 대한 현실이라는 예상치 못했던 겉치레, 거짓말에 대한 이야기예요. 그리고 다시 시작하는 것에서 기쁨을 찾는 것에 대한 이야기죠.)

 

 

이 곡은 파워풀하고 바이브가 가득찬 멜로디외에도 아주 간단한듯 하면서도 은근히 은유적인 가사가 눈이 띄는 곡이다.

가사에서는 Put paper to pen으로 순서를 바꿔 씀으로써, 반대의 의미로 뭔가 시작하는게 아니라 피하려 하거나 모른척 덮어두려는 의미.
