한국인들에게는 무언가 특별한 감정을 불러일으키게 하는 그 곡.

 

Richard Sanderson 의 이름을 아는 한국인은 드물지만, Sophie Marceau와 La Boum이라고 하면 모르는 이가 없는 바로 그 곡 "Reality".

"Reality"는 프랑스 작곡가 Vladimir Cosma가 작곡하고 Jeff Jordan이 작사하였으며, Pierre Richard Muller가 프로듀싱한 곡으로, 1980년 프랑스 영화 La Boum의 사운드트랙으로 영국 가수 Richard Sanderson이 부른 오리지널 곡이다.

1980년 Claude Pinoteau가 감독한 영화 "La Boum"이 대히트를 하면서 Main Them 였던 이 곡도 프랑스, 독일, 이탈리아, 스위스, 오스트리아등 유럽대륙을 석권하며 15개국의 차트에서 1위에 올랐고, 한국, 일본, 홍콩, 중국, 대만등 동아시아에서도 대히트를 기록하며 엄청난 사랑을 받았다.

(심지어 대한민국에서는 정식으로 극장에서 개봉조차 되지 못하고 비디오로 발매된 영화였다.)

 

 

여성관사인 'La'와 폭발음을 의미하는 'boum'이 합쳐진 "La Boum"은 1950년대부터 '파티'라는 뜻으로 쓰이던 은어로 60-70년대에 이르러서 영화에서 보여지는 10대들의 파티로 의미가 좁아졌는데, 오늘날에 이르러서는 오직 이 영화를 지칭하는 단어로만 통용되는데, 렇게 된 이유는 아이러니하게도 영화 <La boum>의 대성공에 있다. 영화가 대박을 거두면서 사람들 사이에 [La Boum=Sophie Marceau 주연의 영화]가 되었기 때문이다. 라 붐은 멀티 플렉스라는 개념이 없던 단관 상영 시절이 던 당시 프랑스에서만 437만 명, 다른 유럽 국가에서 1500만 명의 관객을 기록하며 어마어마한 사랑을 받았다.

 

 

 

영화의 기획 당시에 제작사는 Billi Joel의 Honesty같은 기존의 곡을 사용하고자 했는데, 저작권문제로 예산을 초과한다는 문제가 있었기에 오리지널 곡을 만들어 사용하기로 결정 한다. 하지만 제작사는 그 오리지널 곡을 슈퍼스타가 부르기를 원했고 실무진과 충돌이 일어난다. 작곡가 Vladimir Cosma는 무명의 가수가 이 곡을 불러야 하이틴 영화였던 La Boum의 진정한 목소리가 될 수 있다고 주장했고, 무명이었던 Richard Sanderson을 발굴하게 된다.

 

이 곡은 무명이었던 Richard Sanderson을 일약 스타덤에 올려놓았고, 그는 작곡가 Vladimir Cosma와 함께 작업하여 "Your Eyes", "She's Lady" 및 "Sun"과 같은 여러 히트곡을 남겼다.

 

역시 당시 14세 였던 Sophie Marceau는 일약 국민 여동생이 되고, 단타로 그치지 않고 프랑스를 대표하는 국민 배우로 프랑스인을 비롯하여 유럽대륙 전체의 신데렐라로 성장하게 된다.
