"Popular Song"은 레바논계 영국인 아티스트 Mika의 세 번째 스튜디오 앨범 <Origin of Love>에 수록된 곡으로 앨범의 두 번째 싱글로 미국에서 발매되었다. 이 곡은 미국인 가수 Ariana Grande가 피처링했으며 그녀의 데뷔 앨범인 <Yours Truly>에 수록되었다.

 

 

 

 

 

이 곡은 뮤지컬 <Wicked>의 오리지널 곡으로 Stephen Schwartz가 작곡한 Popular를 리메이크 한 것인데, Mika & Priscilla Renea & Mathieu Jomphe 가 편곡을 하고 Mika와 Greg Wells가 프로듀싱하였다.

뮤직 비디오는 Chris Marrs Piliero가 감독하여 2013년 4월에 공개되었는데, 소위 말하는 '인싸'들에 의해 괴롭힘을 당하는 '아싸'인 Mika 와 Ariana Grande 가 이들에게 복수하는 내용을 담고 있다. 마지막 부분에 가서 반전이 있는데, Mika 역시 Ariana Grande의 복수 대상이었던 것인데, 이는 타인에게 상처를 받고 괴로워 하는 본인도 인지하지 못하는 사이에 타인에게 상처를 주고 있음을 암시하는 의미심장한 부분이다.

 

MTV의 Bryon Flitsch는 "Popular Song"은 "Peppy beat + Catchy melody + Playful lyrics = 튀기에 완벽한 노래"라며 Ariana Grande의 "완벽한" 보컬에 대해서도 호평하였다. Examer.com의 Marques Daniels는 "Popular Song"이 song to inspire bullied and unpopular people to stand up.(왕따를 당하고 인기가 없는 사람들이 일어서도록 영감을 주는 노래)라며 호평하기도 했다.
