"Someday at Christmas"는 Stevie Wonder의 1966년 독립 싱글로 발매된 곡으로 Ron Miller와 Bryan Wells가 만들었으며, Henry Crosby가 프로듀싱하였다. 이 곡은 이듬해인 1967년 11월 Motown Records를 통해 Stevie Wonder의 첫 번째이자 동명인 8번째 정규 스튜디오 앨범 <Someday at Christmas>에 타이틀 곡으로 수록된다. 1966년 발매딘 싱글은 빌보드 Christmas Single Chart에서 24위까지 올랐다.

 

 

 

 

1967년의 동명 앨범은 차트 순위에 들지 못했으나, 그 이후로 여러 번에 걸쳐 재발매되었으며, 2003년에 Universal Music의 20세기의 성공적인 명반시리즈의 Christmas edition으로 additional track을 재발매 되기도 했으며, 2020년에는 미국 Top Holiday Albums에서 28위에 오르기도 했다.

"with Someday at Christmas, Stevie Wonder applies his inimitable vocal technique to yuletide songs, some familiar, some not, with predictably successful results."(Stevie Wonder는 Someday at Christmas를 통해 자신만의 누구도 흉내낼 수 없는 그만의 보컬 기술을 성탄절 노래에 적용했는데, 친숙하기도 하고 또 그렇지 않기도 했기에 예상할 수 있는 성공적인 결과를 얻었다.)

 

고 회고하면서,

 

"striking a plaintive tone not usually found on Christmas albums."(크리스마스 앨범에서 흔히 볼 수 없는 애절한 음색이 인상적이다.)

그랬다. 미국은 당시 베트남 전쟁이 한창이던 시기였고, 1967년 11월 이 크리스마스 앨범이 발표되고 , 2달 후, 1968년 2월 월맹군의 대대적인 구정대공세로 인해 전쟁승리에 대해 낙관적이던 미국 내의 여론에 충격을 주게되고, 끝없는 수렁으로 빠져들어가는 분위로 변하면서 반전여론이 들판의 들불처럼 삽시간에 여론을 뒤집게 된다.
