"Don't Stop Me Now"는 1979년 영국의 밴드 Queen의 7번째 정규 앨범 <Jazz>에 수록된 곡으로, 앨범의 두 번째이자 마지막 싱글로 발매되었다. 작곡 & 작사자인 Freddie Mercury의 성향이 담긴 곡으로, 1979년 1월 싱글 발매 당시 UK 차트에서는 9위에 오르며 선전하였으나, 빌보드 86위, 프랑스 53위, 독일 35위, 스페인 84위등 영국을 제외한 다른 나라에서는 처참한 수준이었다.

 

 

 

예상외로 실패한 흥행성적 때문에, 이 곡은 싱글로 막 발매되었을 시기인 79년에만 연주했을 뿐, 이후엔 한번도 셋리스트에 들지 못했고 라이브 공연에서도 연주되지 못했다.

 

 

하지만 Freddie Mercury 사후 영국에서 다양한 방송과 광고등에 삽입되면서 이 곡은 다시금 조명을 받게 되는데, 이 곡이 발표되던 79년으로부터 한 세대 아래인 90년대의 젊은 층은 이 곡에 대해 환호했고, 인기를 얻기 시작해 오늘날 그룹<Queen> 하면 떠오르는 대표적인 노래 중 하나가 된다.

 

 

 

곡 자체만 놓고 살펴보자먄, 탄탄한 짜임새에 피아노와 보컬의 기교가 매우 화려하기에 청중에게는 한껏 아드레날린을 발산할 수 있도록 즐거움을 주는 곡인데, 문제는 이 화려함이 Freddie Mercury라서 멋지게 소화가 가능하다는데 있다. 그렇기에 다른이가 이 곡을 불렀을때 뭔가 부족한 느낌이 들거나 매우 실망스러운 느낌이 들게 하는것은 C6을 자유로이 넘나드는 폭발적이면서도 청량한 그만의 타고난 보컬에 의지한 곡이기 때문이다.
