Viva la Vida - Coldplay.2008(이야기들)

"Viva la Vida"(스페인어로 'Long Live Life')는 영국의 록 밴드 Coldplay의 네 번째 앨범 <Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends>의 수록곡으로 밴드의 모든 멤버가 함께 만들었고, Brian Eno & Markus Dravs & Jon Hopkins & Rik Simpson가 함께 프로듀싱 하였다.

 

 

앨범의 두 번째 싱글로 발매된 이 곡은 빌보드 HOT100에서 1위를 차지한것을 비롯하여 영국, 네덜란드, 슬로바키아, 체코등에서 1위를 차지했으며, 캐나다, 호주, 벨기에, 유로HOT100, 독일, 아일랜드, 이탈리아, 노르웨이, 스페인, 포르투갈, 스위스를 비롯한 다수의 국가에서 TOP5에 들며 전세계적으로 엄청난 성공을 거두었다.

 

월드와이드 세일즈로 무려 1,000만장이 넘는 판매고를 기록한 상업적인 대성공과 더불어 평단에서도 광범위한 비평가들로부터 찬사를 받으며 곡의 예술적 가치를 인정 받기도 했다.

 

 

또한 2009년 제 51회 Grammy Award에서는 "Record of the Year", "Song of the Year", "Best Pop Performance by a Duo or a Group"부문에 노미네이트되어 "Song of the Year"과 "Best Pop Performance by a Duo or a Group"부문을 수상하며 영예도 함께 가질 수 있었다.

 

 

이 노래의 제목인 스페인어"Viva la Vida"는 20세기 멕시코의 화가 Frida Kahlo의 그림에서 따온 것으로, Frida Kahlo는 유년시절 소아마비로 한쪽 다리가 불편했고, 18세때 하교길에 교통사고로 척추 골절이 되어 하반신이 마비되고, 그리고 33세부터 47세에 사망할때까지 만성 통증이라는 육체적인 고통을 겪으면서도 삶을 찬양(acclaiming life)하는 예술적 아이러니(artistic irony)를 반영한 그녀의 의지가 투영된 작품에 대한 존경의 표시였다고 한다.

곡이 발표된지 무려 3년이나 지난 후인 2011년에 Anton Corbin(안톤 코빈)이 감독한 뮤직비디오가 발표되었다. 안톤 코빈 본인의 작품인 영국의 신스팝 듀오 Depeche Mode(디페시 모드)의 "Enjoy The Silence" 뮤직비디오를 본인 스스로 패러디한 작품이다. 원작인 "Enjoy The Silence"의 뮤비에 등장하는 왕은 생텍쥐페리의 어린 왕자에 나오는 왕을 모티브로한 세상을 다 가졌지만 정작 본인의 안식처는 가지지 못한 왕이었는데, 이 곡의 뮤비에 등장한 왕은 역사 속의 실존 인물인 샤를 10세를 모티브로 했다.
