그가 제왕이 된 이후, 세상은 단 한시도 그를 가만히 두지 않았고, 세상의 9할이 그를 사랑 했을지언정, 남은 소수의 사람들은 끝없이 그를 시기하고 질투, 무시, 편견, 무고등으로 고된 날들을 보내게 되었고,

 

그의 덧없이 허무했던 마지막에 너무나도 가슴이 아팠던 나의 영원한 피터팬이자 그 이전에도 없었고, 그 이후로도 없을 영원한 나의 우상이자 Pop의 제왕 Jackson 형님.

《Thriller》는 MJ 형님의 여섯 번째 스튜디오 음반이자 성인이 된 이후 발매한 두 번째 음반으로, Post Disco, POP, R&B, Rock, Punk, Adult Contemporary 장르가 뒤섞인 있었고, 퀸시 존스의 지원으로 75만 달러의 제작비로 제작되었다고 한다.

 

이 앨범의 9 곡의 수록곡 중 4 곡은 잭슨이 작사/작곡했고, 7장의 싱글은 모두 빌보드 HOT 100 10위권에 진입했s는데, 이는 본인의 전작이었던 Off the Wall이 세운 신기록을 깬 것이었다. 이 중 세 곡은 뮤직비디오도 공개했다.

 

《Thriller》앨범은 여러 자료를 통해 전세계적으로 6,600만 장이상이 판매되었다고 추정되며, 이는 역사상 가장 많이 팔린 음반으로 기네스북에도 등재됐는데, 이 기록은 지금까지도 깨지지 못한 체 이어지고 있다.

 

 

1984년 Grammy Awards에서는 12개 부문에 노미네이트 되고 올해의 앨범 부문을 포함한 여덟 부문에서 상을 받았는데, 이는 최다 노미네이트/최다 수상이라는 신기록을 세운 것이었다.

《Thriller》를 통해 MJ형님은 당시 대통령 이었던 로널드 레이건과 만날 수 있었으며, 인종차별의 벽을 허무는데 큰 기여를 하기도 했다고 한다. Rolling Stones이 선정한 역사상 가장 위대한 500개의 음반 중에서 20위를 차지했으며 《National Association of Recording Merchandisers》이 선정한 역사상 가장 위대한 음반 3위를 차지하였다.

《Thriller》앨범은 그 중요성이 인정되어 국립 음반 등록소에 등재됐으며, Thriller의 뮤직비디오는 그 가치가 인정되어 뮤직비디오로는 유일하게 국립 영화 보존 목록에 포함되었고, 2008년에는 Grammy Awards 명예의 전당에 헌액 되었다.
