The First Time - Surface.1990(이야기들)

"The First Time"은 미국의 R&B/Pop 트리오 Surface의 세 번째 앨범 <3 Deep>의 수록곡으로 Brian Simpson과 Bernard Jackson이 함께 만들었고, Surface 멤버들이 직접 프로듀싱하였다.

 

 

앨범의 리드 싱글로 발매되어 빌보드 핫 100에서 2주 동안 1위를 차지했고, 캐나다 AC차트에서 1위를 차지했으며, 뉴질랜드에서 7위를 기록하였다. 빌보드 연말 결산에서는 무려 9위에 오르는 저력을 보여주기도 했다.

 

 

이 곡은 트리오의 커리어에서 유일한 차트 1위를 기록한 곡이었는데, 말 그대로 심장이 녹아내릴듯 달달한 90년대 R&B의 정수를 보여주는 곡이라고 할 수 있다.

 

 

90년대 초 한국에 처음선보인 팝 전문 라디오인 '배철수의 음악캠프'를 통해 전파를 많이 탔고, 대학가를 중심으로 많은 사랑을 받았던 곡이다.

 

 

모서리에 성애가 낀 창문밖 한겨울 풍경을 바라보며 따스한 차 한잔과 함께 하기에 너무나 좋은, 처음 사랑에 빠졌던 그 때를 떠올리며 상대에게 진심을 전하려는 가사가 단조로운듯 심금을 울린다.
