Let's Get Rocked - Def Leppard.1992(이야기들)

Let's Get Rocked"는 영국의 하드 록 밴드 Def Leppard의 다섯 번째 앨범 <Adrenalize>에 수록된 곡으로 Joe Elliott(리드보컬), Phil Collen(리드기타), Rick Savage(베이스), Robert John "Mutt" Lange가 함께 만들었고, Mike Shipley 와 Def Leppard가 함께 프로듀싱 하였다.

 

 

빌보드 Rock 차트에서 1위를 차지했고, 빌보드 HOT100에서는 15위까지 올랐으며, 영국, 캐나다, 호주, 덴마크, 유로 HOT100, 핀란드, 아일랜드, 뉴질랜드, 노르웨이, 포르투갈, 스위스에서 TOP 10에 들며 많은 사랑을 받았다.

 

 

앨범이 발매되던 90년대 초 당시 광풍처럼 휘몰아치던 얼터너티브 뮤직의 유행으로 다른 밴드들이 처참하게 뒷전으로 밀려나고 있었기에 이 앨범도 처참하게 실패를 할 것으라는 우려들이 많았지만, 그런 우려를 씻어내며 화려하게 차트 1위를 차지해서 그들의 저력을 보여주기도 했다.

 

 

이 곡의 배경에 있어 Rock of Ages와 Best Of compilation 앨범에 대한 Joe Elliott의 소회에 따르면, 이 곡은 밴드가 "White Lightning" 노래를 작업하고 있던 당시에 분위기를 밝게 하기 위해 무언가를 하고 싶었기 때문에 "escapism"(현실 도피) 차원에서 만들게 되었다고 하는데, 그렇게 만들어진 이 곡과 "White Lightning"은 해당앨범에서 마지막으로 녹음된 두 곡이 된다.

 

 

가사는 'disobeying the orders of his parents'(부모의 명령에 불복종하는) 십대에 관한 것으로, Steve Barron이 감독한 뮤직비디오는 90년대 초 당시로써는 최첨단 기술의 컴퓨터 애니메이션으로 제작되어 화제를 불러오기도 했는데, 1991년도에 알콜 중독으로 사망한 기타리스트 Steve Clark 이 없이 4인조로 만들어진 유일한 비디오가 된다. ( Vivian Campbell은 이후에 밴드에 참여하게 된다)

밴드 Def Leppard는 영국에서 발원한 헤비 메탈의 개혁 운동인 NWOBHM을 이끈 밴드 중 가장 상업적으로 성공한 밴드이다. 매우 미국적인 음악 성향과, 미국에서의 더 높은 인기 때문에 미국 출신의 밴드로 알고 있는 사람들도 있지만 영국 토박이 밴드이다.

 

 

이들은 여타 록, 메탈 밴드들에서 흔히 보여지는 일탈과 비행, 기행등의 악동 이미지가 없고 사생활 측면에서 깔끔하고 신사적인 삶을 살았기에 전형적인 글램 메탈 밴드의 이미지와는 조금 거리가 있지만, 팝적인 멜로디와 기타 속주, 화려한 코스튬 등을 가장 먼저 선보인 밴드 중 하나였기에 최초의 글램 메탈 밴드로 여겨지곤 한다.
