"Hello"는 영국의 싱어송라이터인 Adele의 세 번째 스튜디오 앨범인 <25>의 수록곡으로 Adele이 작사를 하고, Adele과 Greg Kurstin이 함께 작곡하였으며, Greg Kurstin이 프로듀싱 하였다.

 

 

이 곡은 역대 24번째로 빌보드 HOT100에서 HOT SHOT 데뷔 (차트에 1위로 데뷔)한 곡으로 역사에 기록되었으며, 무려 10주간이나 1위의 왕좌를 지켜내었다. 또한 영국을 포함해 36개국의 차트에서 1위를 차지하였으며, 월드와이드 1,200만장이 넘는 판매고(실물, 스트리밍 합산)의 대기록을 기록했다.

서정적으로 그리움과 후회를 주제로 한 이 곡은 실패한 관계를 회상하는 듯한 그녀의 싱글 'Someone like you'의 후속곡으로 여겨졌는데, 곡의 가사는 친구 & 가족 & 전 파트너에 이르기까지 "과거의 모든 관계"를 중심으로 대화식으로 표현된다.

 

그녀는 Radio 1 Breakfast Show와의 인터부에서 이 곡에 대해 아래와 같이 자신의 의도를 설명했다.

 

"I felt all of us were moving on, and it's not about an ex-relationship, a love relationship, it's about my relationship with everyone that I love. It's not that we have fallen out, we've all got our lives going on and I needed to write that song so they would all hear it, because I'm not in touch with them."(나는 우리 모두가 계속 나아가고 있다고 느꼈고, 그것은 과거의 관계, 연인 관계에 관한 것이 아니라 내가 사랑하는 모든 이들과의 관계에 관한 것이예요. 우리들은 사이가 틀어진게 아니예요. 우리 모두는 우리의 삶을 살아가고 있는 것이고, 저는 그들 모두에게 연락하지 않았기 때문에 그들 모두가 들을 수 있도록 이 노래를 써야 했죠.)

 

앨범을 재생하자마자 Adele은 "Hello, It's Me."(여보세요, 나야)라며 운을 띄운다. 이는 오랜 기다림 끝에 청자인 우리에게 보내는 인사와도 같다. Adele은 흔들리는 마음을 단어 하나 하나 꼭꼭 씹어가며 노래를 불러나가는데, 평정을 유지하는 동시에 마음의 상처를 정확하게 표현하고 있는 가운데 먹먹한 스네어 비트가 서서히 하이 프리퀀시로 바뀌어나가는 어레인지가 묘한 카타르시스를 제공한다.

뮤직 비디오는 Xavier Dolan(자비에 돌란)이 감독했는데, (후속작인 Easy On Me 역시 이어서 감독하게 된다)

캐나다 몬트리올의 교외에서 무려 아이맥스 카메라로 촬영되었다. (도입부에서 아델이 눈을 뜨는 장면이나 후반부 연못 씬등이 아이맥스로 촬영됨) 'Adele' 이 한때 살았던 집을 찾아가 과거의 연인에 대해 생각하는 모습을 세피아 톤으로 그려내고 있다. '자비에 돌란' 은 처음 노래를 듣자마자 눈앞에 완벽한 스토리와 이미지가 생생하게 그려졌다고 하는데, 이에 'Adele' 은 그에게 뮤직비디오의 디렉팅에 대한 '모든 자율권'을 줬다고 한다. 그렇게 만들어진 뮤직비디오에서 주인공인 'Adele' 은 눈물 연기까지 해내며 가수임에도 불구하고 엄청난 연기력을 인정받기도 했다.
