"Uptown Girl"의 오리지널은 미국의 싱어송라이터인 Billy Joel이 작사, 작곡하고 Phil Ramone이 프로듀싱하여 그의 9집 앨범 <An Innocent Man>에 수록되었던 1983년 버전이 오리지널로, Westlife가 2000년에 리메이크 하였는데, Westlife의 리메이크 버전은 원작자인 Billy Joel이 프로듀싱을 맏아주었다.
그들의 두 번째 앨범인 <Coast to Coast>(2000)의 European Special Edition 및 Asian Deluxe Edition Bonus Disc의 다섯 번째 싱글로 발매되었고, 그들의 세 번째 스튜디오 앨범인 <World of Our Own>(2001)에 정식으로 수록되었다.
UK, 아일랜드, 멕시코 차트에서 1위를 차지했으며, 2001년 아일랜드에서 가장 많이 팔린 싱글이자 아일랜드 역대 10번째로 많이 팔린 싱글로 기록되기도 했다.
뮤직 비디오는 Billy Joel의 오리지널 뮤직 비디오의 패러디로, Westlife의 멤버가 버거 바에서 일하는 직원을 연기하고 Robert Bathurst, Crispin Bonham-Carter, Ioan Gruffudd, Tim McInnerny 및 James Wilby가 진상 손님인 Uptown Guys를 연기하고 탑모델이자 배우인 Claudia Schiffer가 Uptown Girl인 크리스티 브링클리 역할을 맏아 연기했다.
우리나라는 부유층일수록 외곽에서 도심으로 들어가는데 반해, 미국에서는 오히려 도심이 Down Town이고, 부유층은 외곽지역인 Uptown에 거주하기 때문에 제목의 Uptown Girl은 달동네 처자가 아닌 '부잣집 아가씨'가 된다.
