빌보드 HOT 100 에서 2주간 1위를 차지했고, 영국, 네덜란드, 대한민국등에서 1위를 차지하면서 전세계적으로 많은 사랑을 받았는데,

팝랩(Pop-Rap)이면서 R&B가 함유된 미국남부 힙합 발라드인 이 곡은, 팝랩 특유의 밝고 경쾌한 분위기로 취향을 크게 타지않고 진입장벽이 낮았기에 수많은 대중으로 부터 사랑을 받았고, 평단으로부터도 많은 호평을 받았다.

팝 힙합(Pop Hip Hop), 멜로딕 힙합(Melodic Hip Hop) , 멜로딕 랩(Melodic Rap)이라고도 불리는데, 힙합 음악의 리듬을 기반으로한 서정시체에 팝 음악의 진입장벽이 낮은 멜로디컬한 보컬을 융합한 음악 장르.

2011년 제53회 GRAMMY AWARDS에서 Best Rap Song & Best Rap/Sung Collaboration & Record of the Year 3개 부문에 노미네이트되었으며, 그외의 많은 시상식에서 지명되거나 수상하는등 상업적 성공과 더불어 영예를 동시에 받았다.

 

 

이 곡은 미국의 래퍼인 B.o.B(본명 : Bobby Simmons, Jr)가 랩을 맡고 브루노 마스가 송 파트의 피처링을 맡은B.o.B의 곡인 동시에 Bruno Mars의 데뷔곡이다. 특히 이 "Nothin' on You"는 대한민국에서 엄청난 인기를 누리게 되는데, Bruno Mars가 피처링으로 참여한 것임에도 B.o.B 보다 오히려 Bruno Mars가 한국에 널리 알려지게 된 계기가 되었다.

사실 원래 Nothin' on You 은 Lupe Fiasco을 위해 만들어진 곡이었다. 하지만 곡이 녹음이 끝난 후, Atlantic Records의 회장인 'Craig Kallman'은 Lupe Fiasco의 버전을 마음에 들지 않아했고, 이 곡은 B.o.B에게로 넘어갔다. 당시 데뷔전이었던 신성 Bruno Mars 와 Philip Lawrence의 허밍 멜로디(hummed melody)에서 곡의 메인 멜로디가 탄생했고 수개월의 시간이 걸려서야 곡이 완성될 수 있었다고 한다.

 

뮤직비디오는 2000년대와 2010년대 초에 미국에서 많이 인기 있었던 컷아웃 콜라주 애니메이션 형식으로 제작되었는데, Ethan Lader가 감독하고 George Rausch가 애니메이션을 만들었다.
