영화 <스타 이즈 본>의 사운드트랙 앨범에 수록된 곡으로, Lady Gaga & Andrew Wyatt & Anthony Rossomando & Mark Ronson이 공동 작곡하였고, Lady Gaga & Benjamin Rice가 프로듀싱 하였다.

 

전체 OST 앨범을 포함하여, 이 곡은 Lady Gaga의 제2의 전성기를 화려하여 열어준 곡으로 빌보드 HOT 100 1위를 비롯하여 주요 20개국의 차트에서 1위를 차지했음은 물론 빌보드 HOT 100 차트에서 무려 45주간 차트인이라는 대기록을 세웠으며, 월드 와이트 8백만장이라는 어마어마한 판매고를 올렸다.

 

 

91회 아카데미 시상식에서 주제가상 수상, 76회 골든 글로브에서 주제가상 수상, 62회 그래미 시상식에서 Best Pop Duo/Group Performance의 두 개 부분 수상을 비롯하여 무려 32개의 상을 휩쓸며 역사상 가장 많은 상을 수상한 곡으로 역사에 남게 되었다.

 

(특히나 아카데미 시삭상에서이 공연은 이 곡의 사 후 흥행에 기폭제가 되어, 오히려 영화는 이미 오래전에 개봉관에서 내려갔음에도 불구하고 이 시상식 이 후 차트 순위는 급등하게 된다.)

 

 

 

이 영화는 1937년 오리지널 영화의 개봉이후, 1954년과 1976년에 이어 2018년 브래들리 쿠퍼의 감독 데뷔작으로 4번째로 리메이크 되었는데, 3,600만 달러라는 작은 규모로 제작되어 무려 4억 달러를 넘는 대흥행을 했음은 물론 평단에서도 매우 호평을 받으며 그의 감독 데뷔를 화려하게 이끌어 준 영화가 되었다.

(동시에 그의 가수로써의 데뷔 또한 매우 성공적으로 이끌어준 곡이 된다.)

 

 

개인적으로는 이 영화의 성공에 대한 지분의 절반 이상은 Lady Gaga가 진두지휘한 OST가 가지고 있다고 보는데, 수록된 모든곡이 무려 영화 세트장에서 라이브로 녹음되었다.

 

 

이 곡 "Shallow"는 발매 당시부터 보편적인 찬사를 받았으며, 수많은 비평가들로부터 역대 영화 사운드트랙 중 최고의 노래로 꼽혔으며, 또한 엔터테인먼스 산업에서 Lady Gaga의 위상을 매우 공고히 해주게 되었다.
