"Just Dance"는 레이디 가가의 데뷔앨범 <The Fame>에 수록된 곡으로, Lady Gaga 본인이 Nadir "RedOne" Khayat 와 Aliaune "Akon" Thiam 과 공동으로 작곡하였고, Nadir "RedOne" Khayat이 프로듀싱 하였다. 앨범의 리드 싱글로 발매되어 빌보드 HOT 100 1위를 비롯하여 영국, 캐나다, 호주, 아일랜드, 네덜란드등에서 차트 1위를 차지 하였고, 그외의 많은 국가에서 TOP 5에 오르는등 열광적인 사랑을 받으면서 무려 1,000만장을 넘는 싱글 판매량을 기록했다. 또한 그래미 어워드에서 Best Dance Recording에 후보로 노미네이트 되기도 했다.
이 앨범은 레이디 가가의 데뷔 앨범인 동시에 그녀의 모든 앨범들 중 최고의 흥행작이며 동시에 팝 음악 역사상 가장 성공한 앨범 12위에 꼽히는 대작으로, 지금의 레이디 가가를 만들어준 그녀를 상징하는 앨범이라고 할 수 있다.
이 곡은 업템포의 Electro-Pop, Dance-Pop, Synth-Pop 로 분류할 수 있으며, 이 앨범은 중독적 후크가 포함돼 있는 트랙들이 많다는 특징이 있는데, 앨범의 모든곡을 레이디 가가가 직접 작사 작곡했으며 일부는 프로듀싱까지 담당했다.
현재까지 EP앨범인 The Fame Monster를 합산하면 1600만 장, 제외하면 1300만 장의 판매고를 기록하고 있다. 음반 불황기인 2008년에 솔로 여가수가 발매한 앨범임을 감안할 때 이는 굉장한 수준이다. 또한 미국에만 판매량이 편중된 것이 아닌 북미, 유럽, 아시아, 남미, 오세아니아 전 지역에서 골고루 팔려나가 전 세계적인 성공을 거두었다. 발매된 지 5년 차에 벌써 롤링스톤지 선정 가장 위대한 데뷔 앨범 100위에 올라섰고 이후 해가 지날수록 순위는 더욱 상승할 듯하다.
그만큼 앨범 The Fame의 파괴력과 영향력은 어마어마한 것이었는데 대표적으로 팝 씬의 판도를 바꾸는 것에 크게 일조했다. The Fame이 흥행하기 이전 빌보드차트는 대부분 넬리, Ne-Yo, 50 센트와 같은 힙합&알앤비 장르들이 주류였던 반면 레이디가가와 블랙 아이드 피스가 등장하고 난 뒤인 2009년부터 일렉 붐이 일기 시작했고 2009년부터 2012년까지는 차트가 아예 일렉으로 도배되었던 시기이다. 활동기는 물론 레이디 가가의 활동 혹은 화제가 되던 시기에 꾸준히 빌보드 200 차트인을 기록하여 4년 동안 빌보드 200에 차트인한 앨범이라는 기록을 세우기도 하였다
* 신인이었기에 굉장히 많은 TV 프로그램에서 공연했고, 가장 많은 라이브 버전이 공식적으로 촬영된 곡.
* 2009년에는 대한민국에도 방문해 엠카운트다운에서 Just Dance를 부른 바 있다.
