Ai No Corrida - Quincy Jones.1981 (이야기들)

"Ai No Corrida"(lit. Love Race)는 미국의 전설적인 싱어송라이터이자 프로듀서인 Quincy Jones의 <The Dude> 앨범에 수록된 곡으로 Chaz Jankel이 작곡하고 Kenny Young이 작사하였으며 Quincy Jones가 프로듀싱 하였다.

 

 

빌보드 HOT100에서 28위까지 올랐고, 일본 오리콘 양악 싱글 차트에서는 무려 12주동안 1위를 차지했으며, 영국, 오스트리아, 독일, 아일랜드, 스웨덴등에서 TOP 30까지 올랐다.

 

 

Disco(디스코)열풍이 한창이던 80년대 초입에 전세계적으로 대중의 사랑을 받은 이 곡은 상업적인 성공외에도 수상의 영예를 가지는데, 1982년 24회 Grammy Award에서 Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist( 최고의 편곡, 기악 및 보컬 부문)을 수상하기도 했다.

이 곡은 사실 1980년에 작곡가인 Chaz Jankel 본인이 최초로 녹음하여 A&M레코드에서 셀프 타이틀 앨범 <Chaz Jankel>에 수록하여 발매했었지만 성공하지 못했는데, 이듬해인 1981년 Quincy Jones가 Disco 음악으로 편곡하여 커버한 버전이 전세계적으로 히트하면서 널리 알려지게 되었다.

 

 

이 곡의 제목이 뭔가 영어같지 않다고 느껴지는데, 그 이유는 Chaz Jankel과 Kenny Young이 이 곡을 만들때

일본의 영화 "In The Realm of the Senses"(한국명 : 감각의 제국)의 일본 제목인 "愛のコリーダ"(Ai no korīda)를 음차한 것이기 때문이다. 하지만 Quincy Jones의 커버 버전이 워낙 크게 성공했기때문에 일반적으로 "Ai No Corrida"라는 말 자체가 그의 디스코 곡이라는 등식이 성립될 정도로 강하게 인식되어 있다.

 

* 재미있는 것은 Quincy Jones는 이 곡을 프로듀싱만 했고, 보컬은 Dune(본명:Charles May)과 Patti Austin이 담당했는데, 사람들은 이 곡을 'Quincy Jones의 노래'로 생각할 뿐 보컬이 누구인지는 크게 기억하지 못하는경향이 강하다.

 

 

* 재미있는 것은 예전에는 유튜브에 Ai No Corrida를 치면 검색결과가 나오지 않았었는데, 바로 비속어로 오르가즘을 뜻하는 Corrida라는 스페인어 단어 때문이었다. 원래 Corrida는 질주라는 의미의 명사이지만 스페인어 비속어때문에 관련된 금지 단어로 치면 검색이 되지 않다가, 워낙에 이 곡이 유명하고 의미가 있는 곡이라 검색 로직이 수정이 되어 이제는 검색이 된다.
