"More Than Words"는 록 밴드 Extreme의 두 번쨰 스튜디오 앨범 <Extreme II : Pornograffitti>의 수록곡으로, Gary Cherone(보컬)과 Nuno Bettencourt(기타)가 만들고 Michael Wagener가 프로듀싱 하였다. 앨범의 3번째 싱글로 발매되었으며 빌보드 HOT100 1위를 비롯하여 전세계적으로 차트 1위를 차지함은 물론 많은 사랑을 받았다.
미국 Boston에서 1985년 밴드를 결성한 이들은 처음에는 Van Halen의 영향을 받아 정통 헤비메탈을 지향했는데, Queen의 진보적인 사운드에 매료되고 처음에는 팝 메탈 스타일에서 Funky한 리듬을 첨가하어 점차 자신들의 개성적인 사운드를 작업하게 되는데, 2집 앨범에서 대박이 터진다.

상업적으로도 대성공이었고, 평단에서도 앞다투어 호평을 쏟아냈던 이 곡으로 전세계는 acoustic ballad 열풍이 불어왔다.
하지만 이 곡은 과도하게 성공했고, 그들은 자신들의 정체성이라 할 수 있는Funk Metal에서 한참 동떨어진 이 곡의 성공과 인정을 "A blessing and a Curse"축복이자 저주라고 표현할 정도였다. 그렇다고 자신의 자식들중 하나인 동시에 부와 명성을 가져다준 이 곡을 거부할 수도 없는 노릇이라, 모든 공연에서 이 곡을 연주했다.
cf : 한국에서는 이 곡 "More Than Words"만 엄청나게 알려졌기에, 발라드를 부르는 밴드라고 생각하고 앨범을 구매했다가 고막을 진동하는 메탈 사운드에 놀라 질겁한 수많은 여성들의 후일담이 전해지는 밴드이다.
