"Words"는 프랑스의 뮤지션인 F. R. David가 1982년 발표한 동명의 데뷔 앨범 에 수록된 곡으로, Robert Fitoussi가 작곡하고 Frédéric Leibovitz가 프로듀싱한 Euro Disco & Synth-Pop 곡이다.

이 곡은 1982년 싱글로 발매되어 EURO 100 차트 1위, 독일, 이탈리아, 스페인, 스위스, 스웨덴, 오스트리아, 노르웨이를 비롯한 유럽전역에서 각국의 차트 1위를 차지하며 엄청나게 히트하였고, 1983년 봄 UK 차트에서도 2위에 올랐으며, 아시아에서도 엄청나게 사랑을 받으면서 전세계적으로 800만장이 넘게 판매되며 메가 히트를 기록한다.

검은색 선글라스와 흰색 Fender Stratocaster 기타를 어깨에 멘 모습이 트레이드 마크인 그는 한국에서도 많은 사랑을 받았는데,

당시 대한민국에서도 공식집계로 10만장이 넘게 판매될 정도로 한국인들에게 많은 사랑을 받았는데, 80년대 초의 한국에서는 동네의 대학생 형이 정발본 LP를 1장을 사오면, 얼마 지나지 않아 그 동네 중,고딩들과 동네사람들이 가가호호 전부 다 복사본 테이프를 가질 정도로 셀 수 없이 많이 카세트 테이프로 복사에 복사를 거쳐 퍼져 나가는 분위기였다.

 그렇기에 한국인들에게 인지도도 없는 프랑스 가수가 부른 이 "Words"라는 말랑 말랑한 Disco 풍의 Synth-Pop곡이 한국인들에게 얼마나 많은 사랑을 받았는지를 보여준다. 기억해 보면 당시 서울에서는 명동 거리, 동네 레코드집, 카페, 다방, 팬시 문구점 어디를 가도 이 곡이 흘러 나오고 있을 정도였다.
