Billboard Magazine은 "Goodbye Stranger"를 ""a fluid midtempo number highlighted by the band's near falsetto vocals, dominant keyboards and a strong melody line." (가성에 가까운 보컬과 지배적인 키보드 및 강력한 멜로디 라인으로 강조된 유연한 미드템포 곡"이라고 설명했고, UDiscover Music의 Brett Milano는 노래 끝에 Roger Hodgson의 기타 솔로를 "one of the 100 all-time greatest" (역사상 가장 위대한 100인 중 하나)라고 극찬 하기도 했다.

 

 

 

 

 

이 곡은 미드 Supernatural, Red Band Society, Life in Pieces에 삽입되었고, 대히트작인 The Office에서 에피소드 Goodbye, Toby of the Office에서 Michael Scott은 "Goodbye, Toby"라는 제목으로 "Goodbye Stranger"를 패러디하면서 큰 웃음을 주기도 했다.
