Marvin Gaye는 1960~70년대에 많은 사랑을 받았던 모타운 레코드의 대표가수로만 알려져 있는 경우가 많은데, 사실 Tammi Terrelldl 1970년에 급작스러운 뇌종양으로 세상을 뜨기 전까지는 듀오로 활동을 했던 가수 였다.

Marvin보다 6살 연하에, 모타운의 손꼽히던 여가수였던 Tammi가 24살에 요절하자 Marvin Gaye는 급 충격을 받았고, 마약중독의 늪에 빠지는 계기가 되었다고 전해진다.
