어떤이들에게는 80년대초반의 기억이 살아나기도 하고, 어떤이들에게는 커피 광고가 떠오르게 하기도 하는 세기를 넘어서도 젠세계 이들에게 사랑받는 Lionel Richie의 명곡.

Lionel Richie가 코모도스의 리드 싱어이던 시절 자신이 직접 작곡,작사한 이 곡은 연인 관계가 끝난 후의 남자의 감정을 표현한 슬로우 발라드로, 이별에 대해 우울해하기보다는 오히려 일요일 아침같은 편안함(자유로움)을 느낀다는 내용으로, 미국내에서도 이 구절을 어떤 분위기로 해석해야 하는가에 대한 질문은 최근까지도 이어졌던 듯 하다.

"Easy like Sunday morning" applies to anybody who lives on a small Southern town, Small Southern towns die at 11:30PM Saturday night. they roll up the sidewalk. So I kind of got that from my own experiences-that was Lionel Richie from Tuskegee, Alabama, where there is no such thing as four-in-the-morning partying.

easy like Sunday morning 이라는 표현은 남부의 작은 마을에 살아본 사람이라면 알 수 있을 거예요. 남부의 작은 마을들은 토요일 11:30이면 모두가 잠들고 완전히 깜깜해지죠(마치 죽은 듯이). 그래서 나는 이러한 것들을 내 경험에서 얻어왔어요. 그곳은 (대도시처럼) 새벽 4시에도 계속되는 파티 같은건 없거든요.

부드러운 크림이 메마른 목을 부드럽게 적시며 넘어가듯이, 이 곡은 귀를 힘겹헤 하는 강렬한 사운드가 아닌 귀를 편안하게 해주는 그런 느낌의 곡이다.

가사말처럼, 햇살좋은 일요일 아침에는 무한 반복으로 틀어놓은 체 주말의 평화로움을 즐겨도 영원히 질리지 않을 듯한 명곡.
