"Rock Around the Clock"은 미국의 음악가 Bill Haley & His Comets의 앨범 <Rock Around The Clock>의 수록곡으로 Max C. Freedman 와 James E. Myers (as Jimmy DeKnight)가 만들었고, Milt Gabler가 프로듀싱하였다.
빌보드 HOT 100에서 무려 8주간이나 1위를 차지했고, 영국과 호주에서 차트 1위를 차지했으며, 오스트리아, 벨기에, 독일등에서 TOP10에 들며 많은 사랑을 받았고, ROlling Stone지 선정 The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time(역사상 가장 위대한 500곡)에서 159위에 올랐다.
이 곡은 미국과 영국에서 팝 차트 1위에 오른 최초의 로큰롤 레코드로 기록되는데, 1955년작 영화 <Blackboard Jungle>(폭력교실)가 성공하면서 영화에 OST로 사용된 이 곡도 같이 인기를 얻었는데, 순식간에 차트 1위를 차지하여 무려 8주간이나 정상을 지켜내면서 1950년대에 가장 많이 판매된 싱글이 되었을 정도로 큰 성공을 거두게된다.
원래 이 곡의 전체 제목은 "We're Gonna Rock Around the Clock Tonight!"이었으나, 1954년 Bill Haley Decca Records 버전에서 "(We're Gonna) Rock Around The Clock"으로 단축되었다가, Haley와 Sonny Dae를 포함한 이들이 녹음한 대부분의 다른 녹음에서는 제목을 "Rock Around the Clock"으로 더 줄이게 된다.
2018년에는 the Library of Congress(미 의회 도서관)에서 "culturally, historically, or artistically significant."(문화적으로, 역사적으로, 또는 예술적으로 중요한)이유로 the National Recording Registry(국립 기록 등록부)에 보존 대상으로 선정되었다.
