Frank Sinatra의 14번째 스튜디오 앨범 <Come Fly with Me>의 타이틀 곡으로 Sammy Cahn 이 작곡하고 Jimmy Van Heusen이 작사를 맏아 곡을 만들고, Voyle Gilmore가 프로듀싱 하였다. 이 곡은 싱글로 발표되지 않았기에 특정 차트에 오르지는 않았지만, 오랫동안 사랑 받아온 곡이다.

이 앨범의 세션 녹음중에 Frank Sinatra가 Capitol Record를 방문했을때, Voyle Gilmore가 앨범 커버의 프로토 타입을 보여주었는데, Frank Sinatra는 그게 마치 WTA의 광고 처럼 보인다며 극도로 맘에 안들어했다고 전해진다.

이 앨범은 발매 두 번째 주에 빌보드 앨범 차트에서 1위에 올랐고 5주 동안이나 정상을 유지했을 정도로 많은 인기를 끌었고, 첫 번째 그래미 어워드에서 <Come Fly with Me> 앨범은 올해의 앨범 부문 GRAMMY AWARDS 후보에 노미네이트 되었고, 2004년 그래미 명예의 전당에 헌액되었다.

 

이 <Come Fly with Me>앨범은 모노 믹스와 동시에 스테레오로 녹음되었지만, 당시 Capitol 레코드의 표준 관행인 MONO Mix로만 출시되었는데, Capitol Record는 1961년에 이 앨범의 스테레오 버전을 출시하기도 했다.

 

작사가은 Jimmy Van Heusen은 2차 대전당시 테스트 파일럿으로 일했었는데, 푸른 하늘을 날아 태평양을 건너 저 멀리 날아가는 꿈을 가지고 있었다고 한다. 그 꿈이 가사에 투영되어 연인과 함께 비행기를 타고 멀리 떠나자고 하는데, 해외여행이 상류층의 전유물이었던 당시부터 이 곡은 연인에게 프로포즈용으로 많이 쓰였다고 한다.

 

이 곡은 레오나르도 디카프리오가 역사적인 사기꾼 (극 중에 항공사 기장으로 자신을 속이기도 했던)으로 연기한 영화 <Catch Me If You Can>에도 삽입되기도 했다.
