이 곡은 머라이어의 9번째 빌보드 HOT 100 No.1을 차지했던 곡으로, 리드 싱글 이었던 <Fantasy>에 이어 역시나 HOT SHOT을 기록 했으며(1위로 데뷔), 무려 16주 동안이나 연속해서 1위를 차지하는 엄청난 인기를 끌며 역대 빌보드 최장기 1위 곡이라는 대기록을 세운다. (1995년부터 2019년까지 무려 23년 간 역대 최장기간 1위 곡이라는 대기록을 고수했다.)

또한 빌보드 1990년대 Song of the Decade에 선정되며 1990년대 최고의 히트곡이라는 지위를 얻게 되었다.

이 곡은 머라이어 캐리의 프로듀서이자 친구였던 David Cole이 사망한 후(작접적인 사인은 척추 수막염이었으나, AIDS로 인한 합병증으로 추측된다.), 이 곡의 가사를 쓰기 시작했는데 David 뿐만 아니라 가족과 친구 그리고 팬들에게 바치는 메세지였다.
