"You Are"는 미국의 싱어송라이터 Lionel Richie(라이오넬 리치)가 1983년에 셀프타이틀 앨범인 <Lionel Richie>의 수록곡으로 Lionel Richie 와 당시 그의 부인이었던 Brenda Harvey Richie가 함께 만들었고, Lionel Richie 와 James Anthony Carmichael가 함께 프로듀싱 하였다.

 

 

빌보드 HOT100에서 4위까지 올랐고, 빌보드 Adult Contemporary차트에서 무려 6주간이나 1위에 올랐으며, 캐나다 5위, 호주 13위, 영국 43위로 많은 사랑을 받았다.

 

 

이 곡은 Lionel Richie의 많은 느릿한 발라드보다 더 upbeat(업비트 : 빠른 텐션의) 구성을 가졌음에도, Horn(호른) 섹션을 포함한 로맨틱한 분위기가 물씬 풍겨지는 분위기 있는 곡이다.

 

 

또한 이 곡에는 "Now and Forever", "Right Here Waiting"등의 곡으로 유명한 Richard Marx(리차드 막스)가 백보컬로 참여했는데, 그는 유명세를 얻기전에 Lionel Richie의 데뷔앨범에서 많은 곡에 백보컬로 참여했던 일명 "studio musician"(스튜디오 뮤지션)이었다.

 

 

2012년에 Richie는 Richie의 자신의 앨범 <Tuskegee>에서 컨트리 가수 Blake Shelton과 듀엣으로 이 곡을 재작업하기도 했다.
