"Because You Loved Me"는 캐나다 출신의 디바 Celine Dion(셀린 디옹)의 네 번째 영어 앨범 <Falling into You>에 수록된 곡으로 Diane Warren이 작곡하고 David Foster가 프로듀싱하였다.

 

1996년 2월 북미에서 앨범의 첫 번째 싱글로 발표되었고, 1996년 5월 영국에서 두 번째 싱글로 발매된 이곡은 전세계적으로 히트한 Robert Redford(로버트 레드포드)와 Michelle Pfeiffer(미셸 파이퍼) 주연의 영화 [Up Close & Personal]의 메인 테마로 사용되어 또한 엄청난 사랑을 받았다.

(그런데 의외로 영화의 OST 앨범에는 이 곡이 수록되어 있지 않다.)

 

 

 

빌보드 HOT 100에서 6주간 1위를 차지하였고, 빌보드 Adult Contemporary 에서는 무려 19주 동안이나 1위를 차지하였다. 또한 캐나다, 호주 차트에서 1위를 차지한 것 외에도 유럽 다수의 국가에서 TOP 10에 오르는 등 세계적으로 성공했는데, 미국에서만 200만장이 넘게 판매되었고, 월드와이드 세일즈는 500만장이라는 엄청난 기록을 세우기도 했는데, 빌보드는 이 곡을 역사상 최고의 러브송 순위에서 14위로 선정하기도 했다.

 

*참고로 이 곡이 수록된 앨범 <Falling into You>는 월드와이트 세일즈로 무려 2,900만장이라는 경이로운 판매량을 기록한 메가히트 앨범이다.

 

 

 

상업적인 성공과 더불어 다수의 상을 수상하는 영애도 함께 누렸는데, 39회 GRAMMY AWARD에서 Record of the Year(올해의 레코드), Song of the Year(올해의 노래), Best Female Pop Vocal Performance(베스트 여성 팝 보컬 퍼포먼스) 부문등에 노미네이트 되었고, 그 중에 Best Song Written for Visual Media(비주얼 미디어 부문 베스트 송)을 수상했으며, 또한 아카데미상에서 Best Original Song(최우수 오리지널 송)을 수상하였다.
