"This One's for the Children "은 New Kids on the Block 의 3집 <Merry Merry Christmas>에 수록된 곡으로 빌보드 HOT 100 에서 7위, UK 차트에서 9위를 기록할 정도로 많은 사랑을 받았다.

이 곡 역시 Maurice Starr가 만들었는데 그룹의 재간둥이였던 Jordan Knight가 피아노를 연주하며 리드 보컬을 맏고, 터프가이 악동 Donnie Wahlberg 가 서브 보컬을 맏았다 .

이 곡은 영국의 Live Aid나 85년 진행되었던 Michael Jackson의 We Are The World 프로젝트를 모방한 느낌이 강한데, 80년대의 북미는 냉전의 막바지임과 동시에 경제적인 불평등이 지금처럼 크지 않고 국민 대다수가 가장 안정적인 삶을 누렸던 시절로, 전세계의 중심인 미국인인 우리가 불우한 아이들을 도와야 한다는 자선행사나 기부의 개념이 유행처럼 번졌던 시기였다.

세계 최강국가의 시민이라는 자부심이 역사상 그 어느때 보다 높았던 시기로, '인심은 곳간에서 나온다.'는 속담처럼, 전세계 생산량의 50%를 미국 한 국가에서 소비한다는 세계최대 소비국으로써 물질적인 풍요로움에 비례해서 너그럽고 자애로웠던 그 시절에는 탑스타는 은연중에 이런류의 곡을 내거나 자선 행사에 참여했어야 했다.

대한민국 역시 단군이래 최대의 경제성장률과 맞물려 88서울 올림픽을 성공적으로 치뤄낸 후, 급속한 물질적 풍요로움 속에 <내일은 늦으리>와 같은 환경 오염을 줄이자는 앨범이나 행사 및 결식 아동을 돕는 행사들이 유행처럼 쏟아져 나오기도 했었다.
